The agency wanted the romantic feeling of a "just after sunset" shot for this house. Part of that was for the mood, the other was practicle. The sun did not shine on the front of the house.

The main problem confronting us was the very fact that the sun set behind the house making the sky in back bright in comparison to the light falling on the front of the house.

If the sun set behind us, the sky in back would be rich and blue, darker at the top and lighter to the horizon. Plus the light in the sky would be behind us illuminating the front of the house. But that was not the case. We had to put a half neutral density filter over the top part of the lens to darken the sky and let more exposure onto the front of the house.

The light from inside the house emphasized the windows and gave a warm ambiance to the interior of the building.
