The Kitchen Garden of chef Jean Bardet.

"Kitchen Gardener" magazine published by Taunton Press has gone through several editorial evolutions in recent years. Always a lovely and useful magazine, one evolution involved publishing recipes and photos of the recipes made from the vegetables grown in the gardens they show you how to grow. Seems a natural connection. "Organic Gardening" did something similar in the 1980's for which we shot a lovely story. But their editorial staff was fired before we even returned from our assignment. While the editorial staff for our story on that lovely restaurant and hotel of chef Jean Bardet in Tours in the Loire Valley in France were not fired, never-the-less the powers that be decided not to use food photographs long before our article was due to be published. But fortunately the lovely traditional "potager" of Jean Bardet survived intact. The photography was not hard, just the getting there and waiting for some sun to bring out the color. |
