The technology of the product dates this image but does not detract from the problem it solved.
Shot for the magazine "Play Girl", which was trying to establish itself for the women's equivalent of "Play Boy" with not only beef cake but departments for shopping etc., this shot was for an 8 mage section on high end consumer electronics. This precision machined and balanced turn table supported the vynal record on gold nobs and cushioned with felt. But a photo of the turn table would have left the viewer wondering where the 33 record went.
By doing a double exposure with the disk in place and then removed, the table itself was clearly visible and so was the placement of the record.
