Techmedica is a company that was a client a few years ago, but was then sold and absorbed by a larger medical company out of state so this work is no longer current. However, it does show dramatic and exciting photography of medical implants and shiny metal and plastic in general.
Part of that drama was to shoot some of the products, especially for trade shows, on black plexiglass. This made it difficult to light much of the very shiny surfaces which were curved and mirror like reflecting everything around them including the studio itself.
Other shots were specified to be shot on white to allow the background to be dropped out. The technique I choose in this type of drop out background, is to shoot the product on a light table since the white page itself simulates and light table. This method makes it easier to cut aroudn the product but also provides totally believable reflections in the product.
