Client: American Bicycle Security Company

American Bicycle Security Company manufacturers and markets a variety of bicycle lockers as well as selling bike racks from other manufacturers.

Our brief was to take the poorly designed site that had never been finished by the original web design company and try to work with most of the existing art since quite a bit of money had already been invested in the site. We did this successfully expanding the site and making the features work and the navigation more intuitive.

This worked very well for the company and gradually both their search engine ranking improved and spread as well as both their visitor rate improving and sales attributable to the site soared.

Within a couple of years, it became clear that as the site became a more and more important part of the business plan, so the clunkiness of the original design was impeding the ease of use for the visitor. It was decided that as a brochure site it needed more information, more departments and a cleaner look and feel.

With the resulting new design, a new visitor tracker and a lot more content, the site was being used as a tool by existing clients and potential ones.

Ameribike is a small company. Everyone in the office wears many hats and it took a lot of their time to answer the same basic questions over and over again. The site freed them to become more productive internally, weed out sales inquiries that went nowhere and increase their exposure to their markets.

It also developed that since most of their customers were in the procurement fields as city planners, architects, landscape architects and designers etc. the site also provided them with raw content and specifications that they could just copy and paste into their proposals saving them a lot of time and trouble. This was a pleasing and unexpected bonus from the site.

In the early summer of 2004, the site was further redesigned to maintain a visual and content continuity between the company brochure and the site plus additional features added to give clients even more content information in a variety of formats so no one will be left behind due to software conflicts.
