I shoot men quite differently than women.
With men I look for the craggy, the tough, the vulnerable, the contradictions, the conflicts in the face, warts and all - character.
I try to capture an aspect, an expression typical of the person frozen in time, more if I am lucky. Often, I like to place the subject in an environment that has something to do with their interests. The lighting can be harsh or soft, the face can be dramatically side lit or generously fully lit. Each person calls for lighting that is best for them; that expresses them.
I want to capture who the person is, not just what they look like. Hopefully how they would like to be remembered."
